Link monster are Blue in Colour and are placed in the Extra Deck, and are [Link Summoned] to the Extra Monster Zone. Zones that are pointed by the [Link Markers] may have special effects given to them. [Link Monsters] do not have levels or Defense points, and the amount of [Link Markers] will be indicated at the bottom right of the card.

Link Summon [Page 13-14]
Link Summon
[Link Summon] is a new special summoning method for [Link Monsters] to be special summoned from the Extra Deck. A player [Link Summons] a Link Monster by sending monsters that are listed on the [Link Monster] to the Graveyard. [Link Monsters] have [Link Markers], which have the special characteristic of giving effects to not only itself, but also cards in the Zones that are linked by the [Link Marker].

Requirements for Link Summoning
For a [Link Summon] to be conducted, the [Link Monster] will need to be in the Extra Deck. A [Link Summon] is conducted by sending X number of Monsters from your side of the field to the Graveyard, where X is the value of the LINK stated on the [Link Monster]. The monsters that can be used as Link Materials are also stated on the Link Monster.

A [Link Summon] is conducted by sending X number of Monsters from your side of the field to the Graveyard, where X is the value of the LINK stated on the [Link Monster]. The monsters that can be used as Link Materials are also stated on the Link Monster.
In the example of the above Decode Talker, the value of it’s LINK is 3, meaning that you need the same amount of Link Materials, where the materials must fulfil the conditions of 2 or more Effect Monsters. (The number of materials may vary between monsters) Make sure to add into your Main Deck the amount of Monsters necessary for the Link Monster’s materials.
Procedure to Link SummonStep 1: Prepare the materials to [Link Summon] the [Link Monster]. In the case of [Decode Talker], 3 monsters you control in which 2 or more are effects monsters will be needed to conduct a [Link Summon] of [Decode Talker]. The monsters that are used as materials on your field can either be in face-up Attack or face-up Defense Position.
Step 2: During your main phase, declare [Link Summon] and send the materials to the Graveyard to conduct the [Link Summon].
Step 3: After sending the materials needed for the [Link Summon] to the Graveyard, special summon the [Link Monster] from your Extra Deck by placing it on the Extra Monster Zone in face-up Attack Position to complete the Link Summon. (As Link Monsters cannot exist in Defense Position, it must be placed in face-up Attack Position when summoned).
Using Link Monsters as Link Summon Materials [Page 15]
When conducting a Link Summon, Link Monsters can be used as materials as well. In general, 1 monster counts as 1 Link Material. However, Link Monsters are an exception. A Link Monster can also use the value of it’s LINK (The amount of Link Markers) as Link Materials. They must however still fulfil the conditions to be the Link Material that is stated on the Link Monster.
In the case of [Decode Talker], you need to use 3 effect monsters for a [Link Summon]. However as it’s Link Materials state [2 or more effect monsters], you can use a Link Monster using the value of it’s LINK for the Link Material, as long as it’s conditions are fulfilled.
Required Materials: 2 or more effect monsters
LINK: LINK-3
LINK: LINK-3
Example of a legal Link Summon
A LINK-2 effect Link Monster such as [Honeybot] can count as 2 Link Materials. Together with a RAM Clouder, that would count as 3 Link Materials that can be sent to the Graveyard to summon Decode Talker.

Example of an illegal Link Summon
A LINK-3 effect Link Monster such as a Decode Talker cannot be used as the only 3 Link Materials to summon Decode Talker.
As the condition for [2 or more effect monsters] are not fulfilled for it’s Link Materials, that Link Monster cannot count as it’s LINK value for the Link Material.

More about Extra Monster Zone [Page 16]
There are 2 Extra Monster Zones on the field and generally, each player can only use either 1 during a duel. While there isn’t a monster on the Extra Monster Zone, that Extra Monster Zone will not belong to either player’s field.
The player that first summons a monster from the Extra Deck will get to choose which Extra Monster Zone they would like to use. After using the selected Extra Monster Zone, that Zone will become the player’s part of the field and the monster will be special summoned to that Zone.
Also, when you special summon a monster to the Extra Monster Zone, it will be considered as part of your field. (The opponent will automatically only be able to use the other Extra Monster Zone) After that, if your opponent special summons a monster to the Extra monster Zone, that Extra Monster Zone will count as part of your opponent’s field.
More about Link [Page 17]
During a duel, there will be situations where there will be a Monster in the Monster Zone pointed to be the Link Marker of a Link Monster. Those 2 monsters are in a state called [Linked]. Both the Link Monster, and the Monster in front of the Link Marker will be considered [Linked]. There are effect monsters which have effects that can only be used when they are [Linked].
If there are 2 Link Monsters that are pointing to each other with their Link Marker, they are in the state of [Mutual Link].
Special summoning to outside the Extra Monster Zone [Page 18]
Generally when you are special summoning a Link Monster, it will be special summoned to the Extra Montser Zone. However if you have an Link Monster on your field with a Link Marker pointing to your Main Monster Zone, that Main Monster Zone can now be used to special summon monsters from the Extra Deck.
The Main Monster Zones that are pointed to by the Link Markers can also be used to special summon other types of monsters from your Extra Deck, such as Fusion Monsters.
Also, there are cards which can special summon a monster after it has been sent to the Graveyard after it has been destroyed by battle or card effects. (Such as Monster Reborn)
When using such effects to special summon Link Monsters (or other Extra Deck Monsters) from the Graveyard, that Link Monster will be special summoned to your Main Monster Zone. (It cannot be special summoned to the Extra monster Zone)
Speed Duel [Page 31-34]

Official Card Game, you may want to start off with Speed Duels to enjoy the fun of dueling more!
Here are the rule changes for Speed Duels.

Deicde who goes first, then both players draw 4 cards from their deck. The first player will carry out his / her phases then pass over to the opponent. A turn will proceed based in the following order of phases.
Draw Phase: Draw 1 card from the deck. (The first player will not draw a card during the first turn)
Standby Phase: Cards which state “During the Standby Phase”, are resolved here.
Main Phase: Summon your monsters, set your Spell and Trap cards, activate effects of cards. (If you do not do battle, you go into the End Phase after the Main Phase)
Battle Phase: Use the monster cards to do battle. Select your face-up Attack Position monster and choose it’s target to attack. Then proceed with battle like a normal duel. (The first player cannot go into the Battle Phase during the first turn)

Detailed Rules for Link Monsters [Page 38]
Battle Position of Link Monsters
Link monsters cannot be placed face-down in Defense Position. While Link Monsters are on the field, they are placed in face-up Attack Position. As a result, even during your Main Phase, you cannot change the Battle Position of your Link Monsters.
Link monsters cannot be placed face-down in Defense Position. While Link Monsters are on the field, they are placed in face-up Attack Position. As a result, even during your Main Phase, you cannot change the Battle Position of your Link Monsters.
Also, cards such as [Book of Moon] and [Enemy Controller] may have the effect to change a monster’s Battle Position but those card effects cannot be applied on Link Monsters.
More on Link Markers [Page 39]
The Link Markers on a Link Monster do not only apply to your own monsters. They can help your opponent’s monsters gain effects as well.
When there is a monster in the opponent’s Main Monster Zone, that is pointed to by a Link Marker from a Link Monster in your Extra Monster Zone, those monsters are considered [Linked]. (If the opponent’s monster is a Link Monster where both monster’s Link Markers are pointing towards each other, they are considered to be in a state of [Mutual Link]
When you have a Link Monster in a Extra Monster Zone which has a Link Marker that points to an opponent’s Main Monster Zone, you are not able to special summon a monster to your opponent’s Main Monster Zone. However, the opponent will be able to make use of the Link Markers from that Link Monster to special summon an Extra Deck Monster to that Main Monster Zone.
Special Summoning Pendulum Monsters from the Extra Deck [Page 44]
Even though monsters generally go to the Graveyard when they are destroyed by battle or card effects, Pendulum Monsters are the exception. When Pendulum monsters are destroyed, they are not sent to the Graveyard, but are instead placed face-up in the Extra Deck Zone.
When declaring a [Pendulum Summon], if there are face-up Pendulum monsters in the Extra Deck Zone, those Pendulum monsters can be special summoned. The difference of Pendulum summoning a monster from the Extra Deck, compared to Pendulum summoning a monster from the hand, is different as they can only be special summoned to the Extra Monster Zone. However, if there is a Link Monster on the field, your Pendulum Monsters from the Extra Deck can instead be Pendulum summoned to your Main Monster Zones that are pointed to by the Link Markers of a Link Monster. (Even in this situation, do remember to check your Pendulum Scales. Only the Pendulum Monsters with a level between those Scales can be Pendulum summoned.

Extra Link [Page 89-90]
When both Extra Monster Zones are occupied by Link Monsters and the Main Monster Zones have Link Monsters connecting both Extra Monster Zones via [Mutual Link], this scenario is named as [Extra Link].
In normal scenarios, each player can only occupy 1 of the 2 Extra Monster Zones. However in the event that the player is able to complete [Extra Link], it will be possible for 1 player to occupy both Extra Monster Zones.
When your Main Monster Zones has Link Monsters connected by [Mutual Link] with your Link Monster in your Extra Monster Zone and the other Extra Monster Zone is empty, to complete the [Extra Link], it is possible to to summon a Link Monster to that empty Extra Monster Zone.
(Only in this scenario, it is possible for you to use both Extra Monster Zones. In this scenario, both Extra Monster Zones will count as part of your field.)
(Only in this scenario, it is possible for you to use both Extra Monster Zones. In this scenario, both Extra Monster Zones will count as part of your field.)
In this scenario, even if one of your Link Monsters in the main is destroyed by battle or by an effect and sent to the Graveyard, breaking the [Extra Link] state, the Link Monsters in your Extra Monster Zones will not be destroyed.
Also, after you have placed a Link Monster into both Extra Monster Zones, should your Link Monster leave the field and no longer occupy one of the Extra Monster Zone, that Extra Monster Zone will resume it’s state similar to the start of the duel where it does not belong to either player’s field.
(The opponent will be able to special summon to that empty Extra Monster Zone.)
(The opponent will be able to special summon to that empty Extra Monster Zone.)
Control [Page 91]
Related to the rights to use cards. The player who has the rights to use a card is considered to have [Control] of the card. Generally, cards on your field are considered to be under your control. However, it is possible to shift control of a card due to card effects. For example, if control of an opponent’s monster is shifted to you, that monster will be placed in your Main Monster Zone. (This is the same even if the monster shifting control comes from your opponent’s Extra Monster Zone).
If a card that has shifted control enters the Graveyard, hand, or returns to the Deck, they will be returned to the duelist that had control over the card at the start of the duel. While an effect has been applied to shift the control of a card and the card was moved from the Extra Monster Zone to the Main Monster Zone, when the effect ends and control returns to the opponent, it does not go to the original Extra Monster Zone, but is placed in the Main Monster Zone instead.
